JOB DESCRIPTION
The AMI System Administrator assists the Duck River Electric Membership Corporation (DREMC) team with the objective of providing safe, reliable power to members at the lowest possible cost by providing operational support for DREMC’s AMI system. All projects and tasks will be centrally focused on maintaining and improving one or more of these three critical mission components.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Internal Responsibilities — Works collaboratively cross-functionally with various DREMC team members. Oversees the installation, operation, maintenance, support and optimization of hardware, software, network and communications components of DREMC’s AMI system. Contributes to the DREMC safety culture with each project or deliverable to ensure compliance with safe work practices for all involved in the planning and execution of system work.
External Responsibilities — Interacts with DREMC’s AMI vendor and other entities for technical support, to maintain education, and to plan for the future for items such as software, hardware, network and communications needs. Supports DREMC efforts as they relate to the AMI industry and trade associations such as TVPPA and TECA.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
1. Consistently demonstrate a behavioral pattern that supports and models DREMC’s 11 Essential Attributes.
2. Study and apply DREMC policies, procedures, by-laws, rules, regulations, and rate schedules with sound business judgement in the best interest of DREMC.
3. Serves as the primary point of contact for all AMI system related needs.
4. Provide support to the Vice President of Engineering and associated personnel on effective solutions, practical implications, and potential opportunities arising from DREMC’s daily operations as it relates to DREMC’s AMI system.
5. Directs, and/or assists with, the administration, installation, operation, maintenance, support and optimization of DREMC’s AMI system.
6. Assist with the integration of AMI with other applications and systems.
7. Works with DREMC teammates to ensure proper operational performance of AMI software, hardware, databases, networks, and communications.
8. Provide AMI related technical support and training to DREMC teammates.
9. Monitors and evaluates the AMI system status and performance and implements improvements.
10. Identify and document defects, inconsistencies, and performance bottlenecks, and work closely with development teams to resolve issues.
11. Generate and review daily and ad-hoc system reports for the purpose of improving AMI system availability, reliability, and effectiveness.
12. Maintain understanding of current technologies and trends through continuing education.
13. Document and maintain detailed records of AMI design and maintenance activity.
14. Communicate daily with DREMC teammates to keep the AMI system functioning and operating properly.
15. Runs reports as necessary to evaluate the AMI system for read completeness, excessive alarms, usage on inactive meters, and other pertinent data to the operation of AMI as a system.
16. Work with appropriate DREMC teammates to ensure proper equipment is ordered and maintained in inventory.
17. Emergency response coverage, as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education — High School Diploma required with relevant industry experience, certification, and training. An associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university is preferred, but not required.
Experience — Minimum of five (5) years of AMI system experience preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of electric utility experience required.
Certification/License, etc. – Must possess or be able to obtain certificates and/or licenses relevant to utility metering. Valid Tennessee Driver’s License or ability to obtain license prior to first day of employment is required. Must be eligible to remain insured as a driver by the Cooperative’s group liability policy for the automotive fleet.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — A broad understanding of the utility industry is desired. Obtains knowledge of the business, metering and billing functions related to the electric utility business model. Must be able to exercise discretion and use sound judgement in dealing with people and confidential information. Possesses effective oral and written communications skills. Ability to prioritize, delegate and meet deadlines.
